Humble, organic, and real. Just how I like ‘em.

What better way to start off the new wedding season of 2010 with a wedding that really rang true to my own heart?  Today my husband David and I drove down to Woodburn and played flute and guitar for a wedding that turned out to be, IMO, amazing.
Here’s what went down, from my musician’s perspective:

Whew! TGI September.

I’ve been away from the blog for a while because we just had the busiest month of our lives as wedding musicians and have had no time for writing - nor breathing, for that matter (except when absolutely critical for playing wind instruments)!
Update time.  August was busy in a particularly rad way.  We had a [...]

Groomswomen, bridesmen, Man of Honor

Posted on 7/23/2008 at 9:52:06 PM

Is this the new thing or what? In the last two weeks, I have seen both a Man of Honor and a Groomswoman. I love it! It makes me want to have groomswomen and bridesmen at my own wedding. Why not? Many of my closest friends are men, and while I [...]

Made it! A good weekend deserves another, hopefully

We lived!! So, I heard from more than one source that the GNR went over really well at Jessica’s wedding (thank you Jess for the idea!!). We had a grand time at Laurelhurst Park/Laurelhurst Club for Carrie and George. Skip commented that he thought my arrangement of “I Will” by the Beatles was [...]

Coming up this weekend

I was going to make this part of the last post but then decided that it should be its own!
So here’s a weekend in the life of Collage Music:

OMG awesome! Nevermind advance planning.

Lesley RULES!! I have to share this. Lesley is our official ceremony vocalist - and while I’ve certainly been known to sing now and again, I’m really better with the jazz and most good ceremony songs are newer… Lesley, however, can sing anything. I mean ANYTHING, and make it sound awesome! [...]

“But what if it’s NOT the Vivaldi?” - alternative recessionals

Posted on 6/17/2008 at 4:04:33 PM

Last week I posted a “top ten” list of classical recessionals; now it’s time for an overdue discussion of non-classical/other/alternative recessionals.
I’ve been thinking about this for a long while. Years, actually. While Vivaldi’s Spring is a tried-and-true, can’t-go-wrong sort of piece for the recessional (and everyone loves it), and of course there are [...]

Processional ideas, part One

Posted on 6/13/2008 at 8:05:49 PM

I got all interested in the origins of wedding ceremony traditions recently, because of the particularly charming ceremony of Justin and Heather. Honestly, I had not given a moment’s thought to why we always have this crowd of well-dressed people standing around the bride and groom. And separated by gender, no less! [...]

And the winner is…..

The number one favorite recessional piece for 2008, so far (drum roll, please)…
Spring! from the Four Seasons, by good ol’ Vivaldi.
Vivaldi rocks. Spring is, admittedly, my personal favorite of classical recessionals. Does this have something to do with its popularity among my brides? Ok dumb question. Of course it does.
That [...]

an excellent song!

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for good songs. I don’t mean great works of classical music - those aren’t necessarily songs, per se - I’d call those pieces - by “songs” I mean music with words. And usually, the words are about stuff like love and happiness and devotion and … well, [...]
